This summer I didn’t spend a lot of time in England, but I did hear about the wave of heat and high temperature. I know how to protect skin from harm of sunshine rays. I consider myself an expert. After all I come from a city which has summer for 8 months long.
Sun cream is essential
If you have a cloudy day, you will probably think that the UV won’t reach you, but this not true at all. Instead UV is everywhere, no matter how many clouds is covering the sun. Therefore, always put on a [easyazon_link identifier=”B001EJOF3E” locale=”UK” tag=”jessibaby-21″]sunscreen[/easyazon_link] when you go out.
However, it doesn’t mean that you have to choose cream which is SPF80 or SPF100. It really depends on the level to how to protect skin on your face. Sun screen as strong as that might be harmful for your skin because your skin won’t breath! For daily use I recommend cream with skin protection factor of SPF10 – SPF30. That’s because most of the day, cream combined with make up foundation are doing pretty good job.
If you don’t wear any make up however, or even not have a day cream with SPF, it’s better use the sun cream SPF20-SPF30. If you are in tropical location like eg. Thailand, you will need about SPF 50-80. There are many sun creams brands that are quite popular. For example Banana Boat, Nivea, Eucerin and so on. Here’s a quick reviews of some of them.

From protection to recovery, this brand is actually doing excellent job. I won’t go to tropical island without Banana Boat. Recently, this brand is also introduced skin care products for babies and kids. There’s spray and a cream versions, but personally I prefer spray because you don’t have to rub it in. BTW you can apply on your wet skin when you came out of the water too.
You will not get whiter or stay your original color after sunshine! If you have to prevent from getting dark, you need to choose sun cream which is PA(UVA protection)+++ or + more. However if you want to whiten your skin, there’s ways to accomplish that too. (I will post it a bit later) This cream will successfully protect your skin, it will fade away because the water or sweat, so use it again after a while. Unfortunately I can feel my facial skin is a bit uncomfortable when I spray on SPF100, probably I have to use the facial gentle lower SPF one for face.

It’s totally green and you can use it after sun bathing so you won’t feel so painful the next day. If you are really burned, apply a thick layer on your skin and leave it to absorb. This gel is amazingly healing your skin, even from sun burns or wounds on your skin. It’s calming and refreshing for your skin and the effects are outstanding. Meanwhile, you can use this gel to shave as well, it’s very smooth and keeps your skin hydrated. Oh keep it in the fridge.

I trust this brand a lot because the products including the cream or washing milk are ideal for sensitive skin. However, I got the SPF50 and it is apparently too thick for daily use. I can say this sun cream works, because I’m not burned this summer, and my face didn’t feel hurt when I put it on. But it’s difficult to apply and it makes my skin too dry, especially I put my make up on.
You cannot stop masks
Another way how to protect skin on your face is using masks, but more on that on another article. I’m going to talk about DIY masks for summer. It’s cheap and easy. Stay tuned.
Few examples of masks to choose from.
- Apple Mask
Apple helps your skin anti-oxidation, and the acne. Peel the apple and smash, put it on your skin, if you have dry or sensitive skin, you can apply on with milk, olive oil, bio-oil or honey, if you are oily skin, you can go with egg white. Wait for 15-20 minutes and clean it with warm tower.
- Lemon Mask
Not only can the lemon mask whiten your skin, but it also smaller your pores. 1 fresh lemon juice and double of the water, 3tbsp of flour and make it pasted. Apply on your face for 15-20 minutes. But as I said, if you don’t want to have dark face, use it at night.
- Watermelon Mask
Same as the apple mask, but put it in the fridge first, you will feel incredible. We also use the watermelon skin to cool down the burned skin, it helps.

It helps to reduce the dark spots and improves overall. If you don’t like drinking tea in the hot summer, try the lemon and lime drinks. Vitamin C will help a lot on recovering your skin, but Asian girls don’t drink it in the daytime because we are worried about getting dark. 😛
Cherries, pineapples, kiwi fruits, strawberries, grapes, grape fruits also have the beauty function. It said that if you have the yellow or red vegetables, your skin will be stronger. Such as carrots, mangos, tomatoes, papayas.
So this summer, more fruits and more vegetables!
